Question for getting a GSA club out there
I'm currently in 12th grade, and president of my school's GSA *gay straight alliance* club. I've been in the club since my first year of highschool, and have been trying to get the club name out there, so more people would know about it and join.
The thing is, my school is a bit closed minded, and so is the surrounding area of my school. My homeroom teacher *who is also the teacher in charge of our GSA club* is very OPEN minded however :] and recently her and myself have been discussing on how to get the club into more school events or just public events. I have made a bit of an impact with getting the clubs name out there, for during my 11th grade year I made an ad to be played over our school news showing what room the club was held in, what the club was, as well as when it was held. That raised the membership from 5 people to 15! Which is wonderful.
I guess the reason I am writing is to ask, do you have any ideas as to how we could get our club name out there, but at the same time in a 'none' threating way? I mean we aren't threatening now, but as I said before my school is close minded, and if someone is gay, lesbian, or bisexual that person is automatically 'bad'. I'm straight myself, but many of my friends are a part of the GBLT community.
So far the only things we have done to get the GSA name out there in my school is the 'ad' I made last year, as well as just doing a bake sale during the school years. Though I wanted to do more, and my teacher agreed as well.
So I was brainstorming with my mom and she thought of raffle tickets that would be sold for $1-$2 a ticket and the kids at my school could just purchase them for about 1 month before we draw the winner.
Though at the same time, I'm not really sure on what to do next, if the raffle idea gets approved. I mean after the raffle baskets are gone, and that event is over, what next?
If you could help in anyway that would be wonderful! And I would love to hear any ideas you have, or any websites that could help me out on ideas for the club and what not.
