With a Smile and a Thank You!
Late last night I was headed to Boystown. As is always my luck, just as I entered the Bryn Mawr Redline station, a southbound train arrived. It was shortly after midnight, and I knew I would wait another fifteen minutes if I didn't get that run.
I bounded up the stairs to find the car doors closing. Can we say "damn??" This has happened to me before and I'm sure to many of you as well. However, this evening was in my favour and the doors opened again allowing my entry.
I read one of the local rags as the train traversed toward Boystown and soon I was at the Addison stop.
I was in the fourth car from the lead and knew that the operators lean out of the front car window to determine clearance before closing doors and moving on. I decided to sprint to the front of the train and thank the operator who had saved me a potentially long wait on the platform at Bryn Mawr.
A very attractive young lady was leaning out of the lead car and I stopped and loudly said "Thank you for not leaving me at Bryn Mawr!!" The smile that was returned made my evening and she replied that it was her pleasure.
I tell you this to encourage you to be kind, say "thank you" and smile for anyone we encounter in our days that makes us feel better.
I also want to convey that many smiles were encountered Saturday night...Phil, Bill, Hunter and others at MiniBar, Steve and his friends at Sidetrack, David, Craig and Val at Cocktail, Jason, Mike, Mikey, Joshua, Robb and many others at Roscoe's, Victor and Matthew at Bucks, and the gang at Charlie's, too numerous to list.
Be kind. Flash a smile. Say thank you.
