Experience?...what experience?
experience-a particular instance of personally encountering or undergoing something
As all of you know...unless you've been on Mars...Senator Clinton has been flashing the "experience" card around since the beginning of her campaign. Stating that she will be "ready on day one." That's all fine and dandy, but what I want to know is what experience does she really have? She boasts a fat resume full of experience and success. Well I've done my research to see if there was some glorious event that she achieved that I've been missing out on. What do I find? A laundry list of good intentions, sponsoring and fighting for legislation that obviously hasn't passed. Introducing legislation that never even makes it out of the committee stage.
For example:
"...{she} worked with her colleagues to secure the funds New York needed to recover and rebuild."
"...she fought to provide compensation to the families of the victims."
"She is an original sponsor of legislation that expanded health benefit to members of the National Guard and Reserves."
...don't get me wrong yes she has done "some" things during her term as senator but honestly she hasn't achieved anything worth mentioning. We know one thing though, she sure is a fighter...America doesn't need a fighter or a sponsor or someone with good intentions...we need a doer. I mean honestly if her experience is as great as she makes it out to be then why can't she get co-sponsors on half of her bills? If you don't believe me then do your own research at the Library of Congress records of every piece of legislation even thought of by her http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery
Another thing she flaunts around is her "experience" from being first lady. Alright so she was first lady who cares? Does it also mean that since Martha Washington was first lady that she'd be a good president too? Yes Senator Clinton may have been there in the White House with President Clinton but was she the one signing treaties and passing legislation or deciding whether or not to go to war? Was she the one that had to wake up at 3am because a potential disaster was brewing on the other side of the world?...NO NO NO. Records also show that yes she may have traveled to over 90 countries but many of those trips had no diplomatic significance whatsoever and were mere "photo-ops."
Now I realize Senator Obama doesn't exactly have the most experience either. He has judgment though, he had the judgment to stand up and say no to Iraq when no one else would. Senator Clinton says she authorized the use of diplomacy to solve the issue, however the resolution was clearly named the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002...doesn't sound too much like diplomacy there. I'm not trying to say Senator Clinton wouldn't necessarily make a good president. What I am saying is that she needs to get her head out of the clouds and come back to Earth because her "experience" really isn't that much greater than Senator Obama's.
...and since when did experience trump judgment?

Preserving My Dream
So last night I was enjoying a couple drinks...alright they were pitchers so shoot me...lol...anyways I ran into everyone's favorite guy Bill Pritchard. Well he got on to bragging to his friends about my blogs and how good they are...honestly I just write it how I see it...nothing too special...but anyways we got to talking about politics. Kinda weird but it seems everytime I go out to the bars I end up talking politics with someone. Anyways I was explaining to Bill's friend that I'm going to Northwestern next year for a major in criminal justice and a double major in political science. Well I went on to say how much of a passion politics is for me, because it is just that to me a fervent passion so deep and true...I can't even explain it. Anyways I told him that it's my dream to someday become POTUS...and Bill asked me a very good question which honestly even though I was a bit tipsy made me stop and really think...he asked me what I'm doing to preserve my dream.
Dreams...everyone at some point in their life dreams of making it big, being famous, being rich, being successful, being happy, finding that special someone, being destined for greatness...dreams the stuff legends are made of. However, somewhere along the line people give up on their dreams and think it's impossible to achieve that one goal that they've always dreamed about. My question to that is...why? Why give up on your dreams? If you sit and think about it do you know how much better this world would be if people achieved their dreams and made them a reality? If there's one thing about me it's that I always push my friends and people in general to achieve their full potential and not to settle for less than the best...some people think I'm snobby or bitchy because of this fact...honestly I don't mean to come off as a bitch...but I just hate to see people settle for less than they're capable of...we were all put on this earth for a reason and a specific purpose. Maybe I'm really still a child at heart because I do believe I can achieve my goals and that I can do anything I put my mind to and that I NEVER give up on my dreams. It is my dream to become president of this great country it has been a dream of mine for all my years on this earth and I intend on making that dream a reality.
So back to the question of what I'm doing now to preserve my dream and make it a reality. Politics is a very public career. Unlike some jobs where they don't care who you sleep with when you're off the clock or what you do with your time or money in the political field people do care. People are constantly watching your every move with a scrupulous eye. So what am I doing in the here and the now? I'm living a suitable lifestyle that isn't just suitable for me but for the country as a whole. Now you may stop and think right now "is a gay man really suitable to lead this country?"...well why not? I'm not a whore...I don't sleep around with anyone and everyone. I make all the right connections. I get involved in the community. I'm big on that...not just the gay community either...I'm talking blacks, whites, latinos, jews, muslims, homeless, straights, we are a country of many different cultures so as a leader you need to be able to relate to all different ethnic groups. Honestly though I'm not even helping for my own personal benefit...I'm doing it because I love helping people...I get no better feeling than I do when I help a person. It makes me know right then and there that I've been put on this earth to help people. Which is why I want to go into politics so I can make a lasting change to help better this chaotic world we live in. I want to be a servant of the people. I'll be going to Northwestern getting that education to propel me into the political career that I desire so badly. I get involved in everything I can. If I'm going to represent the people then I need to know the people and what they really want and need. So basically what I'm saying is I'm helping serve and protect people now on a smaller scale so that later down the road I have skills and ability to serve and protect the people on a much grander scale. I'm being the best person that I can be so that nothing comes back to haunt me. Another thing...I'm a great leader, I'm personable, I get along with everyone, I know how to get things done, I always have a clear layed out plan in front of me before I go ahead with anything so I don't act rashly, I treat people with the respect and dignity they DESERVE, and I'm a big problem solver too. My friends always come to me when they need someone to diffuse a situation or when they need to talk. I'm not saying being likeable is what's going to win an election but what I am saying is that having a level head and being able to listen to people and get stuff done and lead this country in the right direction is what WILL win elections.
So I think having all these qualities and being involved in as much as I am is what's helping preserve my dream. And just the fact that I don't give up says volumes too. I will fight with honor and dignity to achieve my goals and dreams. If we don't dream of greatness and happiness then who will? No one's going to dream stuff for us...and no one is going to achieve your dreams for you. It takes hard work, determination, and a strong mind...all of which I have.

Why I Support Senator Obama
"This is YOUR America, this is MY America, this is OUR America..."
-will.i.am
As we all know we are at the threshold of change in this great nation of ours. Who ever would have thought the day would come when an African-American and woman would be serious contenders for the hardest job in the world, President of the United States? And you know what? I am completely honored and humbled that YOU and I have the opportunity together to make history. I have tried to stay unbiased in my writings on here, but honestly I had to ask myself why. Why keep my beliefs and preferences under wraps? People all too often are in fear of speaking up and voicing their opinions. Well it's time for someone to break the mold and that's why I am openly supporting Senator Obama with pride. It is also this same characteristic of breaking the mold and speaking up for what you believe in and what's right that Senator Obama personifies which is why my vote will go to him.
Many of you may remember that Senator Obama who was then a member of the Illinois Senate, was one of the few courageous politicians to speak out against the war in Iraq. Now many people are saying right now that he had no decision in whether we went to war or not...which may be true...but regardless of if he made the decision or not he had his work cut out for him. He made a good judgement call plain and simple there is not getting around it. Had more politicians in Washington actually read the NIE (National Intelligence Estimate) they would have had the sense to realize that President Bush and his administration were lying and would have followed suit with Senator Obama thus denying President Bush permission to use military force in Iraq. Judgement is key in holding the title of Commander in Chief. So many people are saying he doesn't have the experience to hold that title. Well let me ask you something, since when did experience override judgement? Look at Vice-President Cheney and former Defense Secretary Rumsfeld, they've been in politics for the past 40 years and look what they have done for this country...driven it straight into the ground. Also if I remember correctly there was a certain other Senator from Illinois who had served the same amount of time in the Senate that Senator Obama currently has that person went on to win the presidency and essentially become the most important president in our country's history for his ability to keep us together as one country, and who was that great man you may ask? The 16th President of the United States of America Abraham Lincoln. We know how to make em here in Illinois. We need someone to unite not divide. Someone that uses common sense and actually listens to their advisers. Someone that isn't afraid to break away from the bandwagon and actually stand up for what is right even though it may not necessarily be what people want to hear. Once every few generations there comes a great leader with the potential to take this country in the right direction and against all odds...succeed. Many say the last president to hold such characteristics was President John F Kennedy. Is it merely a coincidence that so many people including JFK's own daughter and brother compare Senator Obama to President Kennedy? Or is it they see the same ability to inspire and unite and the ability to get things done? I hardly think it's coincidence.
So many people are criticizing Senator Obama for his use of words. I ask you this when was the last time words weren't important? When was the last time words didn't inspire people? Was it not words that inspired 13 small colonies in the new world to break away and defeat the most powerful military in the world? Was it not words that inspired people to follow Moses and Aaron in the desert en route to the promised land? Tell me when was it that a great leader didn't use words to lead? When was the last time someone didn't use words to describe their feelings? When was it that words didn't empower us as a nation to get things done? Tell me is it bad that Senator Obama has the ability to use his words to inspire us as a nation? To bring us together as one again? People say his words don't translate into action. Well how do you think and unheard of greater than 1 million people have donated to his campaign? That he raised over $50 million in February alone? That his grass roots movement is like none ever seen before? That young voters are coming out in masses? That his speeches draw 10 thousand plus on a regular basis? Do you honestly think it's because he sits back and twiddles his thumbs? No it's because of his ability to inspire people that all of us united can raise this country back to its great and former glory. I distinctly remember this quote from when I was younger "The pen is mightier than the sword." Do we really want a president that says no we can't, or maybe we can? Since when did America become the No We Can't country? The country I know and remember is the country that says "YES WE CAN" a country that gets things done. If you can't inspire people and bring them together and make them believe our government actually works well then as Thomas Jefferson once said "The Constitution was made by the people and can be unmade by the people."
We need a President of not just the top 10%, a President of not just lobbyists and special interest groups, a President with not just a Democrat or Republican agenda, we need a President of the United States of America. Someone that will fight for blacks, latinos, whites, gays, straights, rich, poor, democrats, republicans. Someone that can reach across party lines and get things done. Someone that doesn't play the same dirty tricks that Washington has grown accustomed to. A certain someone once said that there is not a black America, or a white America, there are no red states and blue states, there are only the United States of America. This country has been sleeping for far too long now and it's time to awaken from our slumber and get this movement rolling. Change isn't just going to happen on its own we need to go out and fight for it. You know some of us have voiced our opinions and have gone out and voted for change before, but you know what the problem was? No one was listening, that has all changed now someone is listening someone is ready to fight for you and say "Yes We Can" and that person my friend is Senator Barack Obama. He is the person with the courage and the strength to get things done and inspire us to return to our former glory. "YES WE CAN"

Where Have All the Cowboy's Gone???
So this topic really isn't about politics but more of a personal issue that I have. As you can read (I hope) the title of this is "Where Have All the Cowboy's Gone?" if you actually look at it and take it in it can have so many different meanings to so many different people some of you may take it literally thinking that I'm looking for some cowboys to come herd my cows...or some of the more intellectual people out there might actually understand what I'm really asking. What I'm really asking is where have all the good guys gone? The guys that have it all, the looks, the class, the brains, the ability to understand and care for you when things are down.
This past weekend my roommate had some friends in from out of state which is totally fine and he had some of his friends from here over too. That's not what bothered me...what did bother me was the fact that his friends were all over his friends from out of state trying to figure out how to get in bed with them. Honestly do people have no respect for others? Do they treat people like they're just pieces of meat and dispose of them after their one time use? I mean I know we're men so by nature it's natural for us to want to transfer our genes and reproduce. Where have the Fred Astaire's and Carey Grant's of yesterday gone? Are there no decent gentlemen left today? Is this what we have come to? Demeaning people to the point where all they are are a good time and that's it? I'm not trying to portray a holier than thou image but seriously it pissed me off to see these people act like that. Maybe I'm the minority in this, maybe I'm too young to understand, or maybe just maybe I'm setting my standards and expectations too high with people, maybe it's too much to ask for someone to get to know me before considering sex, maybe it's too much to think that people can just hang out and have a good time and not even think of sex. I won't give up though...I know my cowboy's out there somewhere...

Zach, I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear your thoughts on this!
Although it does seem to be against the norm, it is (In my opinion.) a better calling. Intimacy (Knowing someone and being known deeply) should be the ultimate goal; not getting off.
I hear from countless people a week who ask the question why? Why can't they find mister right? Trouble is we are looking. Isn't it enough to be content in whom we are and allow ourselves to get to know someone before we do it? Don’t we want more than a cum shot to be the climax of our relationships? (Be it new friend, or love)
Don't get me wrong, I love sex! Like everyone else, I'm somewhat addicted to it. I’ve hooked up and at times I’ve “looked” for it. Each time I usually end up wishing there were more too it than just the act of what in the end is no more than masturbation with help. I just think that I probably should know someone’s favorite color, goal in life, or personal dreams before going there.
I applaud your thoughts on this! I assure you, you're not too young in your thinking! You are only in the minority. That's sad, but you are NOT alone. I assure you!
Fondly,
~Bill Pritchard
PS: My favorite color is blue

PS: My favorite color is blue
I think you’re right on Zach! I also hapen to think that Bill Pritchard is one such fellow who shows the qualities that you say are lacking! It’s people like you and Bill who are worth the wait!
I'll be your cowboy!
I get what your sayin but its hard to when so many guys out there look good. Iam sure its prety normal to hook up but I do feel like I want somethin diferent every time I get done. What you suggest would be ideal but proly wont happen in my life any time soon. Paul
Nice idea but it doesn't work that way. Lets do it!
Looks, class, brains, the ability to understand and care for you when things are down? Now your pushing it.
What ever happened to just being happy that you have somebody. I think your setting your sights to high young man.
You can't blame those guys because I think it's 50/50, put the blame on both parties.
I don't accept it so it's never done to me.
There are no nights in shining armour!!!
SLOW DOWN, YOU HAVE YOUR WHOLE LIFE AHEAD OF YOU !!!!!

im not saying im looking for someone perfect...perfection is boring...if you have nothing to work at then it's not worth it...and im not perfect either...i'm just looking for someone that doesn't only have sex on his mind...thats not too much to ask for
Not too much to ask for at all!
Quality not Quantity is what I say. I've got a number of quality friends that can be there for me when I need love or support. (That's not sex folks) I don't need to find a guy to keep me company.
Set your sights high Zach! In doing that, you will set your personal standards high as well! Young or old, we should want the best!
You are right, nobody's perfect. To say that we're looking for that is a moot point. This conversation alone is an example of looking beyond just sex. Sex is a great expression of what one would hope would be a QUALITY relationship.

Oh Yea And One More Thing...
As I was headin home from Cocktail last night I thought of something else to add to my point on my last entry...I know the ARC isn't directly funded from the government...but obviously they tremendous support and monetary donations so my question is...instead of discriminating against one group and missing out on the opportunity to save countless lives...why don't they channel their efforts of discrimination into something productive?...i mean they can put their efforts and funds towards researching new and more efficient ways to detect HIV/AIDS almost immediately instead of having to wait around or not even get back accurate test results...this would be beneficial to all of mankind if you think about it because it can enable people with the virus to get on medication right away which could tack on many years to their lives...it could also reveal if someone with "man to man contact" has the virus or not thus enabling those before who couldn't give blood based on suspicion to donate which in turn would save countless lives...so this is my message to the ARC turn your inadvertant message of discrimination into a direct message of hope, humanity, and most of all common sense
