Martin Luther King:
Today marks the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observance. It is a time to remember, reflect and respond to the call of that make a difference pioneer Martin Luther King Jr.!
King's wife, the late Coretta Scott King challenged us saying, "On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered his revolutionary spirit." The King Center continues that challenge by admonishing us to look at Monday the 19th as a "Day On. . . Not A Day Off"
I can't think of a better way to look at it! Sure some of us may not have to go in to work, but perhaps you can take a few moments that day and study the life of Dr. King or volunteer your time at a community event or center. Truthfully, the parallels between the fight that Martin Luther King Jr. fought and those of the LGBT community are very much the same; equal rights, civil treatment, and safety, to name a few.
This week seems to be packed with some great activities and events! There are still tickets available for next weekend’s Equality Illinois Gala, taking place Saturday, January 23, 2010. This is a terrific opportunity to Make A Difference right here in Chicago! The Equality Illinois Gala is a blast! Everyone dresses up for a great meal, inspiring speeches, fabulous libations and a great dance floor. If you would like to attend, tickets are on sale here or by going directly to the Equality Illinois website
As always, you can see all the great events listed here on ChicagoPride.com in CalendarQ.
As busy as the holidays were, I was hoping for a bit of a slow down in the schedule. Alas, this is not my luck. I can’t complain though as there are some damn fun things going on.
Can you believe that American Idol hottie, Adam Lambert came to Boystown on Tuesday!? Leave it up to ChicagoPride.com’s Anthony Meade to be on the scene and capture it all. I don’t know who’s prettier, drag sensation Frida Lay or the guy-liner wearing Idol.
Frat Night Thursday:
Once again, ChicagoPride.com and Scarlet are hosting Frat House Thursday tonight. (See photo above of former Scarlet heartthrob and my pal, Tom Dziarma)
Not only is it your opportunity to start the weekend off right, but you have the chance to meet ChicagoPride.com’s new socialite blogger, Paul Blackburn! He’s super sweet and a welcome addition to the ChicagoPride.com team!
Not too long ago I was hosted in Los Angeles by my pal Nick Thorsen. Nickie took my friend and “ultimate meanwhile” Dylan (See my resent blog photo of him. Oh my!) and I to West Hollywood. It was there that we were hosted by none other than generous socialite extraordinaire Jonathan Chang. For God sake, this man knew everyone and they all adored him!
One such adoring friend was his Besti, Hollywood sensation Bobby Trendy. Gosh did I like Bobby! Not only is he cute, but a lot of damn fun. Many of you will remember Bobby from his time spent with the late Anna Nicole Smith. Now he is more well known for his business Designs by Bobby, that specializes in custom furniture and interior design; serving famous clients including Dennis Rodman, Janet Jackson, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and even Snoop Dogg.
This Friday you can meet Bobby as he hosts Gretchen Bonaduce’s (Yep, that’s the Partridge Family’s Danny Bonaduce’s ex.) 80’s Night at Circuit Nightclub. Knowing Bobby, it will be off the hook!
A Day On, NOT A Day Off:
Monday the 19th marks the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day observance. What a tremendous time in history to reflect on civil rights and the challenges ahead of us. It’s time for us all to get involved in our community and country. I hope you will think about how you can get involved in your neighborhood!

The Best 3 ½ Inches in Boystown:
I’ve long (Hee Hee) said that I have a good personality for a reason. It makes up for the many areas in my life that I fall short. (Giggles) Now Gayberhood favorite Pie Hole Pizza does it again with the introduction of their new tiny gift card. (See Photo Above) Talk about the perfect gift; plus it makes those late night pizza purchases even easier!
Part of me doesn’t want to tell you about my evening on Saturday night. The hidden secret of Wang’s is one that I don’t really want to get out. Attached to popular Sushibar, Wakamono; Wang’s is a charming little martini bar with a marvelous Oriental flare! Introduced to me a few months ago by Advisor Edward and Dr. Drew, it’s THE perfect place to spend an evening with friends!
Joining me for the evening was socialite blogger, Paul Blackburn; his boyfriend Michael; massage/physical therapist, Travis Ahlquist; his lovely girlfriend Tiffany; their roommate David and the sweet Erik Mitchell Thornton. The service was great as always and we were ministered to in music by the uber-cute Saturday night resident DJ, Jacob Meehan.
Heading home for the evening (or is that the morning?) I stopped by Hydrate to say hello to Michal Kosko who was fresh in from GaGa’s concert and sportin the KA-utest hat and guy-liner. A-dor-able! With Michal was the sweet Andrea Wolfe. The sounds of ChicagoPride.com’s own DJ Phil DaBeatz (See Photo by Anthony Mead) were being pulsed throughout the room. Celebrity Dragster, Cyon Flare was on hand offering her usual superb commentary, chant, and cheer! Make no mistake about it, Cyon IS the real deal and has a heart of gold! (Thanks for the dance, Cy!)

With special thanks to my dear friend (and ultimate Meanwhile,) Dylan, I want to wish you a very happy [Almost] Nude Queer!

Change, Change, Change!:
And so the time has come for my holiday in California with my Sainted Parents to end. (Boo Hoo) Every day has been such a pleasure and I will miss them SO much!
One Last Hurrah!:
In great spirit My Father suggested that we all do brunch at Norma’s at the Parker. As you can tell I adore this little Shangri-La. I was also eager for my Bosom Friend David Beal to see and experience this hot spot. With libations and treats we fellowshipped under a cloudy Palm Springs sky.
Once again, my Father had the bagels and salmon; which was enormous! My more meat and potatoes Mom had bacon and eggs. David Beal and I had the damn tasty Huevos rancheros. (See Photo Above) He loved everything so much he hosted us all. (Thanks David!)
Saying goodbye to everyone I headed to my plane; which turned out to be overwhelmingly delayed. Thankfully, the Palm Springs airport has free WiFi! It is by said WiFi that I’m able to write this blog. I was also able to catch up via phone with my Besti, Isaiah, and text Erik, Paul and Ronnie.
Additionally, I was able to reunite with my Sainted Parents when they came for their flight. Leave it up to us to enjoy just one more libation before they boarded. Saying goodbye to them and watching them go down the jet way was really hard for some reason! I don’t ever want to know my life without them around. They are THE greatest part about my world! (Okay, enough with my silly emotional talk)
Have plans for New Years Eve? If not, check out all the fun events in the ChicagoPride.com New Year’s Event Planner. I hope this year is a blessed one for you!
Heading home to Boystown!
