Let's take care of our children

Illinois Gender Advocates
It's on channel 21 every third friday of the month. Kinda interesting but I wish the hosts weren't so "draggy" looking...it doesn't look professional enough. But Amen for Channel 21....I love gay channels/shows!

It's getting hotter.
The weather is getting hotter....lol. For a Pacific Islander like me this should not be an issue. For some reason, I'm not a fan of it though. I'm already imagining to skip August being that it is usually the hottest month.
Lately I have been preoccupied with a bunch of things. Work, volunteering, being a husband...lol, and trying to figure out long term plan for future goals are some of what keeps me busy lately. And planning my mom's birthday 3,000 miles away sure is not a piece of happy birthday cake. She wants music, food, dancing, food, decorations and the whole package. She's inviting 150 people and that's a big enough party. I would have to buy things in bulk now....I'm not even sure if one Lechon is enough...probably not. And of course as usual she's trying to take over the planning....like all mom's do, they want control. So much for planning the party for her. which reminds me...I have to download and record a karaoke song so I can sing to the guests while they're eating....of course, there's got to be entertainment. My brother is singing, my cousin is singing, my younger girl cousins are doing a teeny-bopping group performance, even my 6 year old nephew is singing John Jacob Jingleheimerschmidt...or something LMAO! You can't have a Filipino party without someone singing and all the adults doing line dances. Apparently there's also going to be a group dance to be performed by my aunts and uncles. I hope it all turns out well.

CSB Rocked It!
It was a success and the Chicago Spirit Brigade raised some record-breaking total for AIDS Run/Walk organization. It feels good to see some well-earned results and to know that after all the economy is going through, people still have the heart to donate they hard-earned money for such a great cause. Thank you all!!!

Nettelhorst Elementary
This is actually an e-mail I received from one of my friends in CSB regarding what had happened to this school. It's disheartening to know that there are children of God "or so they say" who would do such horrible things. Read on...
----------------------------------
They have been getting harassed and picketed by hate groups. It's important that we show support of their courage to support us!
Here's the message a Nettlehorst mom posted on a Chicago moms message board on Friday afternoon:
"I just found out that a hate group spent some time today outside of my daughter's school, holding signs saying "God Hates Fags", "God is your Enemy" and "Some Jews will repent." This is after an art installation at Nettelhorst of fabric pieces tied to the front fence in a rainbow pattern, in support of Nettlehorst gay families and teachers, and after the decision that Nettelhorst will be the first elementary school in Chicago to march in the pride parade.
Chicago Elementary School to March in Gay Pride Parade
In response to a few incidents of anti-gay bullying at Nettelhorst Elementary School in Chicago, parents and administrators have taken action:
"In May, [Lesbian parent Marcia] Festen and other parents collected hundreds of pieces of fabric -- strips in the rainbow colors of the gay pride flag -- and each Nettelhorst student tied a ribbon to the school's fence, creating a beautiful rainbow mosaic. A sign accompanies it, saying: 'Each Nettelhorst student has tied a piece of fabric to the fence as a tangible sign of his or her personal intention to create a better world.' They have also recruited families, mainly straight ones, to ma rch in the Pride Parade later this month. Nettelhorst will be the only public school marching. And school administrators, who supported these efforts, agreed to start a parent diversity committee. They'll be tasked with finding ways to reflect the school's diversity in the curriculum and in the images in the school building. Their larger goals are ambitious but doable: to eliminate the stigma attached to kids from same-sex families, to normalize those families so there's less to tease about. Their aim is a school culture in which everyone feels offended by teasing, not just the victims." The school has at least five students with same-sex parents. "A few Nettelhorst parents balked at the parade and the fence project, and a group not affiliated with the school posted a hateful blog item. But the vast majority of Nettelhorst parents have embraced this effort. Straight parents helped with the fence project, signed up for the parade, volunteered for the diversity committee or simply offered an encouraging word. For the same-sex parents, this has been the most meaningful part."
